Performance FAQ’s

WHAT TO WEAR
Now is the time to let go of any preconceptions you may have about a dress code at the Symphony.  Simply stated, we ask that you wear whatever makes you comfortable and most importantly, allows you to open yourself up to the music.  Many people enjoy dressing up and making a special night of it, and you can, too.  However, if it's your favorite pair of khakis and a comfortable sweater that allows you to feel the rhythms and follow the tunes, wear them!  Remember, this is YOUR experience and we want it to be an AWESOME one.

ARRIVAL
The Box Office opens two hours before each performance.  Plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled performance to allow ample time to use the facilities, locate your seats, and settle in.  The theater will be opened for seating by the House Manager approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to curtain.  All performances begin promptly as scheduled.

LATE ARRIVALS
ASO Classical & Pops Concerts:  In consideration of the comfort and listening pleasure of the audience, patrons who arrive after the performance begins will be asked by the ushers to wait in the outer lobby and will be escorted into the auditorium at an appropriate time.  No one will be permitted to enter the hall while the orchestra is performing.

DURING THE PERFORMANCE
ASO Classical & Pops Concerts:  To nurture the ultimate experience for all patrons, a quiet, focused environment respectful of others needs to be preserved.  Performance length various, but a typical orchestra concert runs a little over two hours with one intermission.  Some individual pieces may last an hour or more.  To guarantee that our patrons as well as our performers enjoy the full benefits of the performance, we request that once a performance has started, that you refrain from talking, whispering, singing, humming, or moving personal belongings.  Please open cough drop wrappers prior to the beginning of the performance.  Patrons are also asked to refrain from entering and exiting the hall while a performance is in progress.  If you must leave your seat, please proceed quickly and quietly to the nearest door, or ask the nearest usher for assistance.

PROGRAM NOTES
ASO Classical Concerts:  For information on a particular concert, please see the program notes found in the program book and on the Miller Symphony Hall website.  The notes provide background on the composers, the composition process, the story behind the music, previous performances, and highlight significant passages or instruments.

APPLAUSE
ASO Classical & Pops Concerts:  While attending an ASO Classical or Pops performance, please applaud only at the close of a full piece of music.  The program page, which lists individual movements of longer compositions, and the program notes, can help you to follow the orchestra's progress through each piece and determine the appropriate moments to applaud.

AGE APPROPRIATENESS FOR CLASSICAL CONCERTS
