Dear Friends:

The Allentown Symphony Association (ASA) has made the difficult decision to cancel or postpone MOST performances through August at Miller Symphony Hall (MSH).  As we’ve communicated to you throughout this challenging time, we must pursue the social distancing recommended by medical professionals and local and state governments to fight the spread of the virus that has transformed our country. We are exploring possible options for re-opening the Hall and are in contact with our peers throughout the country and locally.

The following events have been postponed.  If you have purchased tickets for any of these, please note the change of date and retain your tickets if you have already received them:

July 9: Straight No Chaser (BRE Rental Presentation) postponed to April 3, 2021.

July 18: Hotel California -- A Salute to the Eagles (ASO Pops Series) postponed to May 22, 2021.

August 15: “Star Wars:  A New Hope in Concert” (film with the ASO) at the PPL Center postponed date TBD 2021 (Please contact the PPL Center Box Office for any ticket related questions for this event).

Again, patrons are asked to hold on to their tickets for these events. More information about postponed concerts with be forthcoming.

The following events have been cancelled:

July 16:  Third Thursday at The Lyric Room

July 17:  Jazz Upstairs – Hot Club of Reading

August 20:  Third Thursday at The Lyric Room

August 29:  The Allentown Band – Broadway Legends

The following event is still scheduled to occur:

August 21:  Jazz Upstairs featuring Jimmy Meyers

Many of you have reached out to us since the crisis began in mid-March and we appreciate the outpouring of support that has already occurred with many patrons choosing to donate purchased tickets back to the ASA.   If you have tickets to either the July Jazz Upstairs performance or August Allentown Band concert, we would like to suggest the following options:

·      Please consider donating the value of your tickets back to the ASA.  Your tax-deductible donation supports our education programs and adds to the financial stability of the ASA and the essential role it plays here in our community.  You may also apply the value of your tickets to a subscription purchase for the coming season.

·      If you would prefer a refund, you may request one.  

Please contact us at: info@allentownsymphony.org or 610.432.6715 if you have any questions.  We are continuing to work remotely but check messages and e-mails regularly.  Any additional financial contribution that you can make is especially valued at this time.   

We kindly ask that you please submit your request for donating, exchanging, or refunding your tickets by Monday, August 3 ,2020 via the e-mail or phone number listed above.  If we have not heard from you by this time, we will assume, with gratitude, that you wish to donate your tickets back to the ASA.

The actions the ASA takes now – including these unfortunate, but necessary cancellations and postponements – are taken with an eye to the coming months when music will return to Miller Symphony Hall. As a further response to this crisis and the ensuing financial ramifications, full-time administrative staff are seeing varying reductions in pay and both Music Director Diane Wittry and myself have taken a 10% reduction in salary effective June 22, 2020.  Additional cost-saving measures have already taken place or are being considered.
