PERFORMS THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
Erich Cawalla - Vocals / Saxophone
Steve Rudolph - Piano
Bennie Sims - Bass
Marko Marcinko - Drums
Since my professional career began in late 1998, I have had a DREAM to perform songs from The Great American Songbook. Some of my idols include Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Kenny Rankin, and MANY other “CROONERS”. One thing that separates these performers from others is the ability to SING A LYRIC and a MELODY and make you believe it....and oh yea, IN TUNE which unfortunately, so many “professional” stars lack these days thanks to auto-tune!
In my professional life, nothing has ever given me greater satisfaction than to be able to recreate these songs with a traditional 17-Piece Big Band with Strings and I am excited to present this side of me to the world. It has truly been a life’s work for me up to this point. It started in 2015 when my former saxophone teacher, Dave Depalma started arranging songs for me. We then put them to a big band that I perform with monthly called The Last Big Band to “try them out”. THEY SOUNDED fantastic and this dream was fostered even more. It has been a long 4 year process, as an album like this takes immense time, work, and...MONEY!
My debut CD “Erich Cawalla...The Great American Songbook” will be released March 25, 2020 and will feature these selections as well as (1) original song entitled “Life’s About Forgiving” written by both Dave and me. The album will include some of the best Jazz Artists in the world including Grammy-Winning Trumpet Legend Randy Brecker, Village Vanguard Drummer John Riley, Legendary Percussionist Doc Gibbs from The Food Network’s Emeril Live TV Show, Philly Saxophone Legend Larry McKenna, Contemporary Jazz Great Andrew Neu, former Maynard Ferguson Drummer Marko Marcinko, Yamaha Pianist Steve Rudolph, Trumpet Great Eddie Severn, my Producer Bennie Sims on Bass, and MANY others!!! I cannot WAIT to share this with the world!!!”
